Renovation of the Gare Saint Lazare train station in Paris was completed on 21 March after three years of work. The existing architecture has been given a new lease on life and the main concourse is now flooded with dynamic light thanks to a new glass roof and Martin lighting installation.

Martin had already contributed to the lighting of the glass roof at Gare d’Austerlitz with Exterior 200 LED color changers and was brought on board for its second installation in a Parisian station to help rejuvenate the new space. (Martin lighting is also used at stations Chalon-sur-Saône and Macon). Some 84 Tripix 300™ LED linear luminaires have been installed, which have been integrated into the glass roof, giving a softer light and improving the general ambiance. The use of multi-colored lighting scenes on certain occasions will also be used to give the station a festive feel.


Jacqueline Bernard, spokesperson for the Works Department of the SNCF, is pleased with the illumination. He stated, “The new lighting was unveiled on 21 March at the station’s grand opening, launching the inaugural celebrations. We decided to commission this project following the results obtained at Paris Austerlitz station and, as hoped, the lighting gives the glass roof an attractive modern look. Travellers and workers now look up to admire the result.”

A new project to illuminate sections of painted glass (which date from 1930) in order to show off the station’s heritage is currently being investigated.
