Swedish Film (SF) has recently built an entertainment center of eleven movie theatres in the town of Kista near Stockholm - the Kista Galleria Bio – that boasts a playful element in the form of multiple shades of colored light from some 90 of Martin Architectural’s 150-watt Alien 02 color changing lights.

Diroco lighting design
Light and sound company Diroco AB of Gothenburg, who has recently widened their focus from show lighting to architectural lighting, was contacted to complete a lighting design for the large foyer and glass corridor that surrounds the building. Malin Ridderstad of Diroco created a lighting design for the foyer while Marcus Persson, also of Diroco, completed the lighting design for the glass corridor. Diroco worked very closely with architectural firm Jyllnor Rohweder AS on the project.
 
Foyer lighting
The main goal of the design of the foyer was to create a variable environment using colored light and video projection. The white walls of the foyer are washed using various shades of light from Martin Architectural Alien 02 color changers overlaid by logo sweeps from Martin MiniMAC Maestro image and pattern projectors. The Alien 02 is a programmable architectural light with full range color mixing.

Glass corridor
The glass corridor has a unique lighting element of its own. An important factor in the glass entrance to the foyer was to show an active space by enhancing the visibility of movement within the corridor. Marcus Persson used Alien 02s for the glass corridor to create a 3D feel that visitors experience before they even enter the movie palace. To give the glass an ever-changing, eye-catching look at night, Alien 02 fixtures were placed along the long glass corridor that surrounds the building. As people walk through the corridor, their silhouettes can be seen from the street outside.

Some 90 Alien 02 color changers are used in total, along with 4 MiniMAC Maestro and a handful of conventional luminaires. The installation is controlled via a PC-based Martin ProScenium DMX control package and is fully automated using the internal clock. Lighting was supplied by TTS Lighting of Stockholm through Martin Scandinavia.
